Nashik Police in Maharashtra arrested a self-styled astrologer named Ashok Kharat. He called himself “Captain.” He cultivated ties to politicians, celebrities and wealthy clients. He had access to private spaces for years. Serious crimes occurred behind closed doors.
The proceeding began with a complaint. A 35-year-old woman accused him of rape. Police began an investigation. As they searched, 58 obscene videos were found. The videos in question reportedly feature multiple women. Some women seem connected to power circles.
This case has two layers. One is the crime itself. The latter is how he cultivated power and escaped scrutiny for decades.

His properties include approximately 30 acres of land in Pathardi village in Nashik, which is worth around Rs 150 crore, investigators said. It includes 45 acres in Sinnar taluka, worth Rs 2 crore.
Deeds of land buy worth over Rs 30 crore have been registered in the name of his wife Kalpana, daughter Srishti and a doubtful relative in Nashik’s Pathardi and Gaulane parts, police said.
Kharat also has a farmhouse in the region of Ishaneshwar temple at Sinnar worth over Rs 10 crore. The temple trust itself has an annual turnover of over Rs 2 crore.
Other assets are land of Rs 5 crore near Ozar airport in Janori village, a bungalow worth Rs 5 crore in Karmayogi Nagar and an office at Canada Corner worth about Rs 1 crore. He too owns revenue agricultural land at prime Shirdi location, worth crores.
The SIT is also exploring the allegations related to financial trail and wider network connected with Kharat.
