Volvo Car India Reports 27% Jump in Retail Sales in 2021

Volvo Car India announced on Thursday that its retail sales surged by 27 percent to 1,724 units in the past year compared to 2020. The luxury automaker, known for its Swedish roots, had sold 1,361 vehicles in 2020. The growth in sales was primarily driven by the company’s SUV lineup, with the mid-sized SUV XC60 emerging as the top-selling model followed by the compact SUV XC40, as per a statement from Volvo Car India.

“We have achieved strong numbers despite the challenges faced by the industry in 2021 and are optimistic about overcoming the supply issues stemming from disruptions in global supply chains last year,” stated Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director of Volvo Car India.

The company is confident that its entire petrol product range will continue to drive its growth trajectory this year,” he remarked. “Additionally, 2023 will mark a significant milestone for the company with the launch of our first electric car, the XC40 Recharge. We are committed to delivering a new electric car model annually to our customers moving forward,” Malhotra confirmed. In 2021, Volvo transitioned to an all-petrol product line by introducing petrol mild-hybrid versions of the S90, XC60, and XC90 models.
